Real PUNK fans?

I mean real punk fans... Folks who like(d) Ramones, Rancid, Misfits, Bikini Kill... riott grrrl bands about politics and sh*t that mattered... or straight absurdities like GG ... bands like New York Dolls, The Clash, Dead KENNEDYS, The Slits... etc! Doesnt it kill YOU to see these new "punk" kids... with their pop bands and 400.00 hair cuts? Kills me they calls themselves punk!

I absolutely agree! Kids today are NOT punk. They wouldn't know real punk if it bit them on the a$$. Music today just can't compare to the bands you listed. Those bands are legends that will always live on and always be great in the minds of people who recognise what good music is. Bands like Good Charlotte and the crap today will fade away and be forgotten in 5 years. Take comfort in knowing that.

I like punk music all right.

I really don't care about what other people do. If they want to look like a fool, more power to them... it makes me look better in comparison, haha j/k.

But really I don't care what people like or "pretend" to like. I like to listen to my music, read my books, love people, and live life to make myself happy.

You have a point, but the first punk rock that I ever heard was the hardcore like Black Flag and Fear. I understand what you mean though, still makes them Punk Rock to me. :]

And I think they're thousands of more times Punk Rock then these little Good Charlotte and Blink 182 bands.

HeeHeeHee! I remember when my step-father found some of my music. The Sex-Pistols, Ramones, Suicidal Tendencies. He kicked my out to go live with my Dad. Now days it cracks me up!!! Goth kids and all them have it soooo easy!! 8D

Have you heard of Naked Aggression? They've been around since the 80's and still play small clubs. The lead singer is my neighbor, she is so cool..... There's a movie called "Suburbia" it's a Punk movie, not a documentary, but a movie with cool Punk music in the background, and a few shots of bands playing also.... I've seen The Misfits, and The Ramones, and X. I was so lucky to have seen the Ramones at their last show

I agree that many of the bands you name (and many more) were more entertaining and inspiring, and sometimes even more musically talented, than what today passes for punk rock. But that's the way it goes. Everything changes, and sometimes the names given to the styles don't. If a band done up in women's dresses and basic blues chords started vamping around with a heroin-cooked guitarist and a sexily androgynous baritone on vocals, they wouldn't be called groundbreaking. They'd be called New York Dolls rip-offs. That's the way it goes.

But I do like them better. And I thank you for NOT including the Sex Pistols on this list.

-edit- Joy, those bands are hardcore. When Punk Magazine (which is where the name came from) first hit the NYC streets in the mid-70s, they were writing about bands like Ramones, The Dolls, The Dictators, etc... The LA and New York hardcore scenes hadn't yet begun to come to life.
