Is this the right way?

I am getting a shih-tzu puppy and i have ribbons to put in its hair but apparently its not as easy as it looks? The method i have is...

Bath my dog, comb ALL tats out, part hair, brush hair up,secure with a latex band, add some dog gel,and then put the ribbon in.

it seems like thers gotta be a simpler way any suggestions?

Is this the right way?

Sure it's easy. Daily brushing is a must. You must also take out that ribbon, every day, and brush and redo his topknot.

Also you want to brush out all the mats before you bath, not after, as bathing makes them tighter.

Forget the gel, just makes the hair nasty, and harder for you to recomb and redo her bow everyday.

Also, the easiest way, is to form the bow and attach it to the rubber band, so you can just put in the band with the bow on it.

Simply take a length of ribbon, find the center point, and fold both sides over the midpoint. Take your band, and slip one end thru the other around the center of the ribbon. Then adjust to look like a bow and cut to length. Or you can just go buy these predone. A good place to find them, is the groomers shop.

I have never done this, but I'm sure if you contact your local groomer they should be able to help you and even show you how to do it. Good Luck with your fu-fu pup.

Is this the right way?

1. Keep dog's hair trimmed to manageable length.

2. Throw ribbons in trash.

3. Brush dog daily.

4. Bathe only when necessary.

Seems pretty simple to me!

Sounds right to me.

And don't forget to take the bow out daily and rebrush, otherwise you'll end up with one huge matt on the top of the head. I've had to give a few "crew cuts" to dogs that didn't have that done.

Get the breeder to show you how, on both a puppy and an adult.

If you plan on keeping his hair long, it will need at least a daily brushing. They need blow drying, not hot, then gather up the hair from the middle of his forehead that flops over his eyes and secure a small elastic band, then add the bow. It's simple!

I'm with Loki....

If you want to put bows in somethings hair, then have a little girl.

I bred and showed Afghan Hounds. Coat care is the same, just more of it on Afghan.

Frequent brushing in proper manner is a biggy. I wouldn't brush daily unless pup into something (burrs, dry grass,etc.).

If you mean ribbon/bow on topknot, I think you have the idea. I would avoid gel, hair spray, etc.

Coat care is NEVER simple with a long haired breed
