Metallica had a really big impact on metal while the Peppers really just made good music. I mean, Metallica was such an awsome band (before their recent albums) but they have such complex and beautiful songs. Metal didn't have to be just screaming anymore.

Metallica had the biggest impact on metal. It is really two separate types of music. I am a metallica fan. Red Hot Chili Peppers didnt come in to play until the 90s. Metallica has been around since the late 70s early 90s. But both are good. They both are enjoyed by 17 year olds up to beyond of how old I am. Both groups are equal in their own music. Chili Peppers are more alternative and came out in the early stages of grunge with Nirvana and such groups.

Having seen both bands live I can say that you can not compare the two 1st Metallica are and hard rock/thrash metal band and the R.H.C.P. are a funk/rock. yes they've been going for the same length of time its just that the chilis write catchy sing along songs and metallica write mosh pit songs

Metallica without a discussion, the influence they had on other Rock/Metal bands is immense, besides, their records are much more long-lasting than RHCP.

Metallica has influenced great bands like Linkin Park, KoRn, Staind, Nickleback and even RHCP.

Actually, both Metallica and the Peppers were formed the early 80's, with Metallica forming in 1982 and RHCP forming in 1983.

It's hard to compare two bands from completely different genres. Metallica, as the name suggests, is primary metal (early metallica, at least. Before they sold out with the Black Album). Red Hot Chili Peppers are more of a funk rock/rap band.

Early Metallica had a huge impact on the metal scene in the mid-80's and 90's, influencing pretty much every metal and nu-metal band today. Moreover, many beginning guitarists these days are influenced by Metallica. While John Frusciante's guitar playing may be more difficult theory-wise (thumb-over chords, anyone?), guitarists tend to find the chugging palm-mutes and pentatonic scale based solos more appealing than technical musicality.

The Pepper's didn't have as big of an influence on a genre. Rather, they had a huge influence on bassists. Many bassists, myself included, were influenced by the slap bass in much of the RHCP's songs. Bass plays a far bigger role in the RHCP than in Metallica. It's rare to find a band that lets the bass, rather than the guitar, share or take the melody.

Metallica far and away. They had strong influences on so many great bands nowadays, plus they reinvented the concept known as "good singing". And the only thing the chili peppers did anything close to well was a song they stole and changed the lyrics to. If that's great, your perception needs work.

i think the Chilis are really funky and all but overall i would pick Metallica for being the biggest impact on rock. I think they are more sucessful and will be known more by people in the future than what the Chilis will be.even tho thay are great too but i think people can connect more with Metallica( well i can) hope this helped!

Hard question to answer as both bands were not competeing for the same fan base. Both bands had a huge influence on their Genre. You have to remember that Metallica did not "invent" their sound. Bands like Danzig and Motorhead from the Britain speed-metal genre were making music well before Metallica. So, for originality and influence I would have to go with RHCP.

you CANT ever compare metallica to rhcp because they are WAY different.

metallica is metal, and so far as i've known, theyre the best thrash metal bands who made amazing songs with great guitars and quality lyrics.

rhcp is a funk rock band which has the awesome guitarist and the funny yet good bassist.

so, they both are great, listening to both of them is the best solution.

Metallica by far..even though they sold out when Black was released..I will always like Metallica..I'm a true fan I liked them back when they had Cliff Burton and when they had Dave Mustaine before his Megadeth days...and I will listen to their newer stuff as well..just perfer the older days..Hate the Chili Peppers..(now there's some posers for ya)..always have always will. To me Chili Peppers shouldn't even be classified in the same or near the same genre as Metallica.

I like both, but METALLICA definitely wins. They changed rock into metal. I don't feel like the Chili peppers are comparable to metallica, because they haven't really changed music. The Chili peppers don't stand out at all to me. I think a lot of bands are making new genres... the chili peppers are just one of them. Don't get me wrong though... i think the chili peppers are good still, just not as memorable as the great METALLICA.

Metallica. Their brand of metal has either inspired many bands to emmulate them or open the floodgates for many other bands who played similar styles of music to get signed. Metallica has caused a whole genre of music to finally get recognized and become as popular as it has. Back in their day, they were the Led Zeps of heavy metal.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are by far the better band. I think Metallica has had more of an influence on guitar and metal than the peppers but they have created thier own style and influenced bass players everywhere. I have seen both live and the chili peppers are much more energetic and musical. Flea is the best bass player alive and John Frusiante is amazing. John may not be as technically proficiant as Kirk but he is by far more creative. I think when both bands are done the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be known as the bigger band.
